All paths are relative to '~/.fvwm', but if you use system-wide installation
(you for example installed Crystal from distribution package), if in a path
there are no 'user-preferences' directory, you need to look into system-wide
installation, usually '/usr/share/fvwm-crystal/' or
'/usr/local/share/fvwm-crystal'.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why I cannot enter numbers from the numeric keyboard? After a while in
Crystal windows don't move, I cannot switch desktops, nothing works how it
should be...

A: FVWM-Crystal uses numeric keyboard for window controlling - moving, focus
switching, etc. That's why whithout NumLock turned on it's not possible to
enter digits. When you turn on NumLock, FVWM (window manager) get's "weird",
because it uses NumLock as another modifier, such as Shift or Alt. More about
it can be found on the project's FAQ page. You can turn off this function, but
then you cannot control windows from numeric keyboard. The best way is to not
use NumLock at all - if you want to enter digits, hold Shift - then numpad
works normal, letting you enter numbers and math symbols.

Q: Sometimes when i switch to a desktop 5 (example), FVWM switches to desktop
4 or 6. What's happening?

A: In Crystal i have a mechanism to remember which window was focused when you
change desktops. When a last focused window is also on another desktop (even
few pixels), FVWM will switch to the desktop where more part of this window is
visible. Example, when you have a big window on desktop 3 and it's edge can be
seen on desktop 4, when you switch to desk 4 FVWM sees that this big window
was last focused and switches you to desk 3, where more contents of this
window is visible.

Q: How to turn on a panel which shows song title played in XMMS?

A: See ~/.fvwm/functions/InformationBox for details.

4.0
Q: How can I add a menu with applications on the desktop?

A: Look in '~/.fvwm/desktop-layouts/selected-layout/Bindings'. In this file
you can uncomment one of the menus and reload your bindings configuration from
"Developer Menu" -> "Reload" -> "Bindings". It should appear immediately, by
default on the left mouse button.
