about
-----
this is a simple program for configuring patches for emu10k1 based sound cards
such as SoundBlaster Live!. it works with the driver from
http://opensource.creative.com. it uses emu-dspmgr program which is distributed
with the driver in utils/mixer/ directory.

what does this program do?
--------------------------

1.with the help of emu-dspmgr you can easily load a patch to the card on the
specified line (the patch must be generated with the as10k1 assembler)
and clean the card from it.
2.you can control 'CONTROL GPRS' of loaded patches (such as speed in flanger)
3.you can save sessions and load them later, session is a list of patches
currenlty loaded with values of controls;more info below

requirements:
-------------

emu10k1 based sound card(SB Live! is such a card)
driver from http://opensource.creative.com (it may not work with the driver from
the kernel)
emu-dspmgr (not distributed with the kernel driver!)
gtk+ library

installation:
--------------------

1. type 'make'
2. put the executable somewhere on your $PATH
3. make sure you have installed the tools from the driver package
(even if you want to try the kernel driver you need to install tools,
just download the latest snapshot of the driver from
http://opensource.creative.com, unpack it and do
'make tools;make install-tools')
4. create '$HOME/.epache' directory, it will be used by the program
  for saving sessions

and while in X session run
'epache'

notes on saving sessions
------------------------
patches are loaded from /usr/local/share/emu10k1 directory,
if you develop your own patches put them into the directory.
saving sessions depends on unique names of patches,
for example :
let's say you have 'file1.bin' and 'file2.bin' files on the top list in epache,
if you'd view these files in mc you will see that these patches have names
after a header, these names can't be the same for every 'file1.bin' and
'file2.bin' on the list.

so you probably have to edit some files in utils/as10k1/effects directory (the
driver package):
'chorus_2.asm' : change the name to "Stereo Chorus"
'tone-old.asm' : change the name to "Old Tone Control"

check other files if they are ok,
do 'as10k1 <filename.asm>' for every file you change
and then move the generated patches to /usr/local/share/emu10k1.

IMPORTANT (FOR ME)
------------------
As you can see my English is far from correct. I spend some time writting
the tool for you, you can spend 1 minute to correct one line of
this file and sending it back to me. Thanks!
