WPJabber FAQ

=========================================================

Why WPJabber ?

 - Works fast, stable and can handle huge amount of users.
 - WPJabber can work on multi-processor machines.
   ( On machine like 2xPIV 2.4 WPJabber should be able to
    handle load of 100 thousands users online )

=========================================================

Do I have to use WPJ ?

No. You may use jpolld or even jabberd1.4.2 with c2s module,
but then you want to be able to use some jabberd features like
safe restart.

Remember to add -DNOWPJ when compiling if you don't want to use WPJ.

========================================================

What is it safe restart ?

When you use WPJabber - WPJ - clients architecture you can
restart WPJabber and WPJ will keep all messages and data
for users when WPJabber is down. When WPJabber is online, WPJ will
recreate sessions and process queued packets.

========================================================

Should I use NODEBUG flag during compile ?

Yes. Jabber will work even 10% faster without debug.

No debug flag can be turned on by:
  ./configure --nodebug

You can also use --optimize flag to optimize code.
  ./configure --nodebug --optimize

How to test 50000 users.

You need two machines ( can be one ).
One machine with wpjabber and WPJ's and second machine with jab_simul's.

First configure wpjabber and 5 WPJ's. Each WPJ for 14000 users.
Each WPJ must listen on different port. From 5222 to 5226.

Later configure 5 jab_simul's.
Each jab_simul will connect to different WPJ and will simulate 10000 users.

Remember to rise limits ( ulimit -n 50000 )
and change /proc/sys/fs/file-max to 100000.

1. First test.

Set only connect events with frequeny 900000000 in jab_simul and test if everything works.

2. Second test.

In jab_simul set <events_after>XX</events_after> to value of 9999 - it will
enable events after logging all users.

Enable connect events and messages.

Run test and check if everything is all right.

3. Main test

Enable all events :)

Remember to adjust frequency as normal users would do:
Message every 5-10 sec.
