This manual will try to help you to update from older versions.

From 0.29 to 0.30

I really would recommend to do a fresh installation and only use the user,
group file and maybe some configurations because quite a lot has changed.

There is a var/ directory now and logs are in var/log and stats in var/stats.

You need a scripts/ directory for the embedded perl scripts.

FTP4ALL 3.012 ==> OpenFTPD
--------------------------

There are quite much changes, so the best thing is to start with a clean
install of OpenFTPD to a different directory using "make install".

OpenFTPD is able to import FTP4ALL user and group files but you can't
export them to the old format. So you should make a backup before and
don't use your only copy of those files.

There were some major changes in the various configuration files:

First the "shortcuts" key from the registry was removed completely and
replaced with etc/customcmd.cfg, so if you have some scripts or addons
you still want to use you have to add them to this file.

The "log" key was replaced by "loglevel" which is an integer value.
You should keep the default setting 2, but you can choose 0 to disable
it, 1 to only log security events but no transfers and 3 for verbose
logging which will even log list commands.

The next big thing is the new sectionsystem, if you want to divide your
site in various sections with the posibilty to have seperated statistics
and configurations you should now edit "etc/sections.cfg" and have a look
to the included default section config files in "etc/sections/"

Don't use your old registry file without changes, although most of the
key still work, there are a lot of new options you should check out.

The Java GUI will NOT work with this version but you can expect a new
web-based admin system or a kde/windows admin tool for future versions.
(If you are a coder and want to do this contact us now !!!)

If you want to use the stat script you have to make sure that there is a
dir called "stats" in the var/log/ directory.

Have fun with your new ftpd :)
