How to install
--------------

First Build and install
  - phlib ( 1.17 or later) [ http://www.nfluid.com ]
  - GNU readline-devel (for the header files)
  - expat
  - swig (1.3a5 or later) for perl API support (if required)

Now you can build and install Goldwater:

shell> ./configure --prefix=<where> --with-phlib=<where phlib is installed>

Optional configuration items are:
--with-perl Enable building of perl API support
--without-pnet Disable building of C# API via dotGNU Portable.Net

shell> make
shell> make install

If building with Perl API support:
shell> make install-perl

Setting up Goldwater
--------------------

Goldwater supplies a collection of libraries which need to be accessible by
clients and servers written with the Goldwater API.

There are two ways to achieve this:

1. Set LD_LIBRARY_PATH for each environment working with goldwater:

   export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:<where>/lib:<where_phlib>/lib

where <where> is as supplied to configure --prefix... for goldwater
<where_phlib> is where phlib has been installed

2. Set the library path globaly in /etc/ld.so.conf:

   shell> vi /etc/ld.so.conf
            add <where>/lib
            add <where_phlib>/lib

   shell> ldconfig

IPC Resources
-------------
Goldwater makes heavy use of SysV IPC resources. Applications using Goldwater
usually require quite a few message queues to function.

ipcs -l will tell you the number of system wide message queues available.

echo NUMBER > /proc/sys/kernel/msgmni to change that figure under Linux
