A simple identd written in Perl, with support for masqueraded connections
(using iptables). It does a reverse lookup on the masqueraded host, and
uses the first part of the hostname as the ident reply. If the ip address
can't be resolved, it uses the ident reply as specified by the $default
variable in the program (e.g. if the local host on the lan is 192.168.0.100,
and that address resolves to pc1.local.lan in a reverse lookup, the ident
  reply will be 'pc1')

Installation:

This identd (like most others) is designed to be run by inetd (or similar).
Add an entry for it in /etc/inetd.conf, read the inetd documentation if you
don't know how. Make a logfile writable by the user nidentd will be run as,
and point the $logfile variable in the code to that file. That's all to it!
You can optionally modify the default ident reply for unknown masqueraded
hosts in $default (which is 'unknown' by default).
