This version of the FORE Systems 200E-series driver can be installed on
2.3.99-pre6+ kernels. Earlier distributions are targeted to 2.2 and older
2.3 kernels.

Install in 2.3.99-pre6 kernels
------------------------------

1. Get the Linux kernel sources version 2.3.99-pre6 from an ftp server such as:

   ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.3/linux-2.3.99-pre6.tar.gz

You can not use earlier 2.3.x kernels, as the driver now uses the new
   PCI and SBUS DVMA interfaces.

2. Get the linux-atm distribution version 0.77 from:

   ftp://lrcftp.epfl.ch/pub/linux/atm/dist/atm-0.77.tar.gz

   See http://lrcwww.epfl.ch/linux-atm/ for details.

3. Get this driver from:

   http://cedric.cnam.fr/personne/lizzi/linux/linux-2.3.99-pre6-fore200e-0.2f.tar.gz

   See http://cedric.cnam.fr/personne/lizzi/linux/fore200e.html for details.

5. Expand all packages:

   tar xzvf linux-2.3.99-pre6.tar.gz
   tar xzvf atm-0.77.tar.gz
   tar xzvf linux-2.3.99-pre6-fore200e-0.2f.tar.gz

6. Patch the Linux kernel:

   cd linux
   patch -p1 <../atm/atm.patch
   patch -p1 <../linux-2.3.99-pre6-fore200e-0.2f/linux-2.3.99-pre6-fore200e-0.2f.patch

7. Configure, build and install the Linux kernel as usual.

Firmware updates
----------------

1. Copy the new firmware binary files (with .bin, .bin1 or .bin2 suffix)
(see the README file) to some directory, such as linux/drivers/atm.

2. Reconfigure your kernel to set the new firmware name and location.
Expected pathnames are absolute or relative to the drivers/atm directory.

3. If your new binary firmware image has the same name than the original one,
   delete the files drivers/atm/fore200e_pca_fw.[co] and/or fore200e_sba_fw.[co]
to ensure that the new firmware will be used when rebuilding the kernel or
   the module.

4. Rebuild and re-install your kernel or your module.
