                              Superficie 0.7.2
                              ----------------

Introduction
------------

Superficie (surface in spanish) is a small program that allows to visualize
3D surfaces, and to manipulate them. It allows to rotate, to move away,
to show illumination, etc. on the surface at issue.

It works like this: You generate the data in the program of your
selection, like Mathematica, Mupad, Octave, Yacas, some interpreter like
scheme, or plain C. Then you start superficie and read the data (from a
file or a pipe). I'm very interested in yacas
<http://www.xs4all.nl/~apinkus/yacas.html>.

Installation
------------

See INSTALL for general instructions.

The 'configure' script will try to detect your gtk/gnome, fltk
installations. It will not stop if can't find some of these. If you
don't have gnome for example, but do have gtk or fltk, simply cd to the
appropriate directory and type 'make'.

Running superficie (gnome)
--------------------------

* $ superficie [--bg=COLOR] [file1 ... [filen]]

In superficie (gnome):
---------------------

keyboard:

<o>      toggle options box
<n>	 select next object
<Ctrl+o> open the object properties window
<F3>, <ins> Open a file in the current window
<Ctrl+w>, <q>  Close window
<Ctrl+x> Close all windows and exit superficie
<Up>     Select next object
<Down>   Select previous object

mouse:

<button 1 click> stop animation.
<button 1 drag> rotate

<button 1 release>
  stop rotating or begin animation, depending on release speed.

<button 2 drag>           up: zoom + , down: zoom -
<button 2+3 drag>         move selected object
<button 2 drag + Control> move selected object

<Ctrl+b1> select an object

Examples
--------

See examples/

Running with yacas
------------------
In the folder yacas/ there is a file (superficie.yac). In yacas, type
Load("superficie.yac");
See this file for instructions.

Running with mathematica
------------------------
included with the source is a mathematica package (superficie.m), which
defines some functions to use superficie within mathematica. See this
file for examples, and for changing the path to superficie. Be aware
that this have only the basic functionality, and is not a sophisticated
package.

Running with octave
-------------------
There is a file containing definitions needed to run superficie with
octave, thanks to Peter Hopfgartner <hopfgartner@rolmail.net>.
I don't use octave, so if you have any question regarding this file,
please direct them to Peter.
The file is octave/superficie.m

Running with scheme
-------------------
The supplied script works with mit-scheme, guile and mzscheme
(drscheme). Edit the file scheme/superficie and change the first
line.

Running with Mupad, Maple, etc.
--------------------------------------
I would really appreciate if somebody makes the routines needed to use
superficie within any of these programs. I don't have the time to learn
another language, (which i don't like, besides). Sorry.

Bugs
-----

If you want to report a bug, suggestion or something, send mail to:

        juan_pablo_22@yahoo.com

Very useful will be:

* the output of ./configure, and the file config.log
* Operating System (e.g. Linux 2.0.34, etc.)
* OpenGL or Mesa version
* gtk, gnome, gtkglarea version
* compiler (e.g. egcs, gcc, etc.)
* What you were doing when the bug appeared (how to reproduce it).
