If this is your first time ever using the spam module, you do not need to
upgrade anything. Instead, follow the directions found in INSTALL.txt.
The spam_upgrade.php script is only for upgrading from a pre-2.0 version of
the spam module. If you are upgrading from an earlier 2.0 version of the
spam module, DO NOT USE THIS SCRIPT.

The pre-2.0 spam module is available from drupal.org.

To upgrade from a pre-2.0 release of the spam.module, you will need to follow
these steps:
  1. Backup your database. If something goes wrong, this gives you a chance
to get back to where you started.

With mysql, you can backup all your tables with the following command:
          mysqldump -u <username> -p --add-drop-table <database> > <filename>

For example, if your username is 'drupal' and your database name is
'drupaldb', and you wish to back to a file called 'backup.sql', type:
          mysqldump -u drupal -p --add-drop-table drupaldb > backup.mysql

  2. Copy the 'spam_upgrade.php' script into your top level Drupal
installation folder. (This is the folder that contains index.php,
      cron.php, etc...)

  3. Point your browser to http://<your site>/spam_upgrade.php

This script will first delete all spam comments and nodes on your site.
If you have a lot of old spam content, this could take a very long time.
If your browser time's out, simply reload the page. Continue this
process until you see messages that your old spam database tables were
deleted and the new ones are created.

  4. Replace the old spam.module with the new spam.module.

  5. If you run into any errors, execute the following command in MySQL to
      to empty your cache.
          DELETE FROM cache;

  6. Refer to INSTALL.txt for information on how to configure your new spam
      module.
