If you plan to do any development with softcsa/mythtv please read the following:

I have found a reasonably convenient way to manage having seperate patches for
mythtv, and I'd like to keep them that way.

Here is how I do it; it is not required that you do it this way, but it seems
to work well for me.

Install quilt (this is a patch management tool)

# Install a clean svn branch of mythtv
mkdir ~/svn
cd ~/svn
svn co http://svn.mythtv.org/svn/trunk/mythtv
cd mythtv

# setup a quilt repository
mkdir patches
mkdir .pc
quilt upgrade

# import current patch set
quilt import -p 0 ~/sasc/patches/mythtv_sasc-base_rxxxx.diff
quilt push
quilt import -p 0 ~/sasc/patches/mythtv_softcsa_rxxxx.diff
quilt push
quilt import -p 0 ~/sasc/patches/mythtv_datadirect-dn_rxxxx.diff
quilt push
quilt import -p 0 ~/sasc/patches/mythtv_dn-eit_rxxxx.diff
quilt push
quilt import -p 0 ~/sasc/patches/mythtv_legacy-switch_rxxxx.diff
quilt push

# At this point your tree is up to date.
# run configure and make and make sure everything is ok
# Make sure to:
pushd libs/libmythtv/FFdecsa && make && popd

--------------------------
# To resync with SVN
# Don't blindly do an 'svn update' it could make conflict resolution a pain
# Instead
quilt pop -a
svn update
quilt push -a
(fix conflicts as needed. Use 'quilt push' to push a single revision. run 'quilt refresh' whenever a manual change is needed)

--------------------------
# to alter a patch:
quilt pop <patch you want to modify>
make the edits
quilt refresh

--------------------------
# creating the patches
cd ~/svn/mythtv
export SASC=~/sasc-0.5
export sascsvnver=`svn info | perl -ne 'print $1 if(/Revision:\s(\d+)/)'`; \
for i in patches/*.diff; \
  do export sascroot=`basename $i`; \
  export sascbase=`echo $sascroot | sed -e 's/.diff$//'`; \
  export sascnewname="myth_${sascbase}_r${sascsvnver}.diff"; \
  cp $i $SASC/patches/$sascnewname; \
done; \
unset sascsvnver; unset sascroot; unset sascbase; unset sascnewname
unset SASC

--------------------------
# building the archive:
cd sasc-0.5
make clean
rm sasc
rm PLUGINS/lib/*
cd ..
tar --exclude="PLUGINS/src/*" --numeric-owner -cvjf sasc-0.5.tar.bz2 sasc-0.5
