Upgrade Instructions
====================

In some cases, an upgrade path muse be followed. If you are upgrading, please
look at these instructions. If you are upgrading from an early version to
a current one, all version changes have to be completed.

In all cases, please note any changes you make to the 'Makefile' and 'config.h'
making the same change in new versions.

v0.101.2 -> 0.101.2
===================

perfparse-log2db no more write data to a file but only send them to the db
perfparse-log2file does it.
If a binary that do both is needed, please send feedback as is it only 5 minutes
on work on perfparse/Makefile.am.

If you are running perfparse-log2db, please run perfparse-log2db with
--show_config option to check if it is well configured. Some options changed their
names and other were added.

v0.100.x -> 0.101.1
===================

Perfparse is dead. Perfparse-log2db does nearly the same things as perfparse
and replaces it.

Check your cfg file. Either use the example file, or run
perfparse-log2db -c yourconfigfile.cfg --show_config

New options
-----------
Error_Log is where perfparse-log2db will write error messages
Error_Log_Rotate asks perfparse-log2db to append the date to its error log file.
Drop_File_Rotate asks perfparse-log2db to append the date to its Drop_File file.
Output_Log_File asks perfparse-log2db to output all the lines it reads
Output_Log_Filename is the name of the file where to output what perfparse-log2db reads
Output_Log_Rotate asks perfparse-log2db to output what it reads in
	path/YYYY/MM/YYYYMMDD.log where path is Output_Log_Filename. Perfparse is
	able to create such directories.
Service_Log_Position_Mark_File is a file to store the place where Perfparse
	last read in the Service_Log file.

Old and unsupported options
---------------------------
--delete* is no more supported. This is not supposed to be done by perfparse-log2db.
Use your own scripts to do it. For example:
       cp serviceperf.log serviceperf.log1; \
       echo -n "" > serviceperf.log; \
	   cat serviceperf.log1 | perfparse-log2db; \
	   rm serviceperf.log1

-n to parse only n lines is no more supported. Edit the file to give to perfparse-log2db,
	or tail/head it to perfparse-log2db stdin and it will parse only the wanted lines.

Upgrade tip
-----------
You can also recompile nagios with --with-default-perfdata (and NOT --with-file-perfdata).
Then edit etc/nagios_perfparse.cfg to see how to configure nagios.
WARNING : for nagios-1.2, this is now the preferred way to interface perfparse-log2db with nagios.

If you do not want to upgrade, check perfparse.sh (in perfparse bin directory) and check
that it does what older perfparse was doing for you.

You should also remove the old perfparse binary to avoid possible confusions.

v0.99.08 -> 0.100.x
===================

No changes

v0.99.06 -> 0.99.08
===================

There are some new options available for perfparse:

--delete-service-log Truncate serviceperf.log file to zero length on exit.
--delete-host-log Truncate hostperf.log file to zero length on exit.

These replace the single option:

--delete Truncate serviceperf.log file to zero length on exit.

Therefore, PerfParse can be made to empty the hostperf.log as well as
the serviceperf.log. PP does nothing with the host information at
this time, these new options give the user the ability to
delete it.

Perfparse is given the location of these log files in one of two ways:

1) By using the perfparse options:

--serviceperf-log Location of the serviceperf.log file.
--host-log Location of the hostperf.log file.

Which replaces the one option:

-l Location of the serviceperf.log file.

2) Alternatively, these can be defined as a directive in perfparse.cfg.
A sample will be supplied, perfparse.cfg.example with these values:

Delete_Service_Log =         "No"
Service_Log =                "/usr/local/nagios/var/serviceperf.log"
Delete_Host_Log =            "No"
Host_Log =                   "/usr/local/nagios/var/hostperf.log"

If you call PerfParse from cron, and previously setup perfparse.sh to use the
--delete option, you will now want to add these new options.
Alternativley, you can copy over the provided example, perfparse.sh.example,
to perfparse.cfg, provided you have not edited the original.

New tables/fields have been added to the database, please run
'perfparse-db-tool --update' to update the database after installation.

This version also introduces the concept of access control. The administrative
functions of the CGI may be controled. You may define these as Read-Only,
Read-Write or Hidden. See perfparse.cfg.example for more information.

v0.99.06 -> 0.99.07
===============

No Change.

v0.99.05 -> 0.99.06
===============

In version before 0.99.06 the nagios state (OK, WARN, CRITICAL,
UNKNOWN) is guessed by looking for these words in the Nagios plugin raw
output. From this version onwards, the actual state is stored, whether
the output shows these words or not. This is used only in the Raw
reports. This may result in some reports showing some minor difference
when showing data before and after this upgrade. No changes are needed.

v0.99.04 -> 0.99.05
===============

There is a small fix needed. Please edit nagios.cfg, find the line:

xpdfile_service_perfdata_template=$TIMET$\t$HOSTNAME$\t$SERVICEDESC$\t$OUTPUT$\t$PERFDATA$

And please change to:

xpdfile_service_perfdata_template=$TIMET$\t$HOSTNAME$\t$SERVICEDESC$\t$OUTPUT$\t$SERVICESTATE$\t$PERFDATA$

v0.99.03 -> 0.99.04
===============

No Change.

v0.99.02 -> 0.99.03
===============

perfparse-purge-db is now perfparse-db-purge
perfparse-update-db is now perfparse-db-tool

v0.99.01 -> 0.99.02
===============

No Change.

v0.0.11 -> 0.99.01
===============

No Change.

v0.09 -> 0.0.11
===============

'perfparse' is now divided into two main files:
'perfparse' Adds data to PerfParse in usual way.
'perfparse-purge-db' Deletes data from PerfParse DB.

There is also a new program:

'perfparse-install-db' Converts the database when versions change.

v0.08 -> v0.09
==============

Name change on CGI code, check what's produced and where your
links are pointing at.

v0.06 -> v0.08
==============

See the README in the source directory, significant changes.

v0.05 -> v0.06
==============

Change to Makefile structure. Please edit to suit.

v0.04 -> v0.05
==============

Please edit the 'perfparse.cfg' file before typing 'make install'. Correct
this file for your working options.

v0.01 -> v0.03
==============

No change.
