Verify that expect and tk are installed; if not install them. They are included
with most distributions, but may not be installed by default. If you are
using yum, you can simply:

   yum install expect tk

If you want automatic CPU speed control, install the cpuspeed utility (part
of the kernel-utils package on some distributions). Configure the
/etc/cpuspeed.conf file for your machine, if necessary. Make sure the
cpuspeed daemon is started when the system boots.

If you want to override default settings, copy the tclkeymon.conf file from the
distribution etc directory to /etc and modify the settings for your environment.
Make sure tclkeymon.conf is only writable to root:

   chown root.root /etc/tclkeymon.conf
   chmod 744 /etc/tclkeymon.conf

Place start-tclkeymon and tclkeymon in /usr/local/bin.
Make sure start-tclkeymon and tclkeymon are owned by root and have the
proper attributes:

   chown root.root tclkeymon
   chmod 744 tclkeymon
   chown root.root start-tclkeymon
   chmod 744 start-tclkeymon

In order to have the script run automatically at boot, add the following
to /etc/rc.d/rc.local (or /etc/rc5.d/S99local, depending on your distribution):

   /bin/nice -n -5 /usr/local/bin/start-tclkeymon &> /dev/null &

You will also need to add the following to your login script
(for example, ~/.bash_profile) to allow the pop-up windows:

   /usr/bin/X11/xhost +localhost &>/dev/null

To upgrade the running tclkeymon, you can just

   killall tclkeymon

Within 10 seconds, the start-tclkeymon script will automatically restart it.

Optional:

If you'd like to run additional commands when the screensaver is activated
(the machine is idle or Fn-b is used), or when the machine becomes active
again, you can place the following scripts in /usr/local/bin, and set their
attributes:

   chown root.root tclkeymon-idle
   chmod 744 tclkeymon-idle
   chown root.root tclkeymon-active
   chmod 744 tclkeymon-active

tclkeymon-idle

This script is run at idle. The sample shows you the commands needed
to allow the hard drive to idle with EXT3 file systems. In the sample,
two partitions are modified; you need to update the script for your
   system.

tclkeymon-active

This script runs when the machine is being activated (waking out of the
screen saver). The sample shows you the commands needed to return the
hard drive to normal status for EXT3 partitions. In the sample,
two partitions are modified; you need to update the script for your
   system.
