This source has been tested with Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition under Windows, and GCC and Code::Blocks under Ubuntu. See later for details on the Preferences program.

Linux
=====

You can install the required libraries with:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-cg-toolkit
sudo apt-get install build-essential libfreeimage-dev
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev
sudo apt-get install libsdl-mixer1.2-dev
sudo apt-get install liblua5.1-0-dev

To compile, open a terminal window, cd to the conquests directory (the one containing makefile_conquests). You can then compile with:

make -f makefile_conquests

This should then produce the executable file conquests.out .

There is also the file conquests.cbp, which is a project file that can be used with Code::Blocks ( http://www.codeblocks.org/ ).

Windows
=======

You need additional lib/include files to compile this program:

glext.h - from http://www.opengl.org/registry/api/glext.h (Copy to the Vision/ folder.)

wglext.h - from http://www.opengl.org/registry/api/wglext.h (Copy to the Vision/ folder.)

Cg Toolkit - from http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cg_toolkit.html (Copy the files cg.lib, cgD3D9.lib, cgGL.lib to the Vision/ folder; include files should be in your compiler's path.)

FreeImage - from http://freeimage.sourceforge.net/ (Copy the file FreeImage.lib to the Vision/ folder; include files should be in your compiler's path.)

Lua - from http://code.google.com/p/luaforwindows/ (Copy the file lua5.1 to the Vision/ folder; include files should be in your compiler's path.)

SDL - from http://www.libsdl.org/ (Copy the file SDL.lib to the Vision/ folder; include files should be in your compiler's path.)

SDL_mixer - from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/ (Copy the file SDL_mixer.lib to the Vision/ folder; include files should be in your compiler's path.)

Freetype - from http://www.freetype.org/ (Copy the file freetype.lib to the Vision/ folder; include files should be in your compiler's path.)

To run the game, you need the additional DLLs / files that are required by the program - you can get these by downloading the binary archive.

Preferences program (Windows and Linux)
=======================================

The preferences program (in the folder QtPreferences) requires Qt for both Windows and Linux ( http://qt.nokia.com/ ).

On Linux, the executable file should be copied to the root conquests/ folder (the same folder as the conquests.out file), in order for the preferences config file to be picked up by the game. (On Windows, it doesn't matter where you run it, as the config data is saved in %APPDATA%.)

History
=======

0.11 onwards - requires Lua.

0.10 onwards - added Makefile for Linux; no longer requires Code::Blocks.

0.9 onwards - added port to Linux; requires SDL and Freetype; preferences program ported from .Net to Qt.

General
=======

The source code is released under the GPL.

This game uses my game engine ("Vision") - note that this is primarily a general 3D engine, and a significant proportion of the functionality is unused. In particular, much of the functionality in GraphicsEngine.cpp is unused (and most of the 3D aspects are only used for rendering the terrain - most the time Conquests calls the Renderer directly). The files Loader.cpp and Modeller.cpp are completely unused by this project (however I have included the files, to avoid splitting up the engine).
