In this file where <host name> is used it stands for the server's host name
as the filters keep the PLP convention that the suffix of the configuration
file names be the server's host name).
1.
Edit file ../Make.inc with the machine name and the paths where installation
is required to take place. Define CC with the path of the compiler to be used.
If building for Solaris then comment in the lines with the SVR4 and LIBS
macros.
2.
In bphp4.sh script change the last line with the complete path
where bphp4 and bphp4.sh live.
In ifhp4.sh script change the last line with the complete path
where ifhp4 and ifhp4.sh live.
3.
If line wrapping is required set variable WRAP to ON in ifhp4.sh.
If Resource Saving is enabled in the printer used set the RESRCSAVE env
var ON in the ifhp4.sh file.
4.
Run "make all" to build the executables.
5.
Run make install if you want to install the package.
You should be root first in order to run make install.
6.
Edit $ETC/printer_perms.<host name> file with the remote machines and
users which are allowed to print.
7.
Edit in $ETC/printcap.<host name> file the values of :if: and :bp:
keywords with the correct path where bphp4[.sh] and ifhp4[.sh] live.
8.
Edit bphp4.sh and ifhp4.sh and set the env variables with the required
values.
9.
Edit file $ETC/host_fonts.<host name> so that the correct font gets
downloaded to the printer when a request comes from a remote machine.
10.
Make sure that the directory where the configuration files are installed
($ETC) is writable by daemon.
11.
Running "make install" from the beginning does the building and the
installation in one step.
12.
Edit crontabs files to run rm_errlog to remove lpd error log file when it
becomes too big. Check this script and if the lpd error log file is
different then edit the name.
13.
For those who have upgraded their system to the one with plp version 3.4.12
or higher attention should be paid in the accounting.sh script which has
changed.
One of the reasons it changed was that printer_perms.<host> file has got
one extra field.
14.
Decide the degree of persistence you require for the filter and set variables
SLEEPTIME and RETRIES accordingly. For full description of the persistence
functionality read the hp4 man page.
15.
In the printcap file, when assign the bphp4 full path to capability :bp:
pass the required debugging level with the -D option and the required
Institution's title and subtitle. These are passed as one string with the
-B option and an embedded \n separates the title from the subtitle.
The required debugging level should be passed when assigning the ifhp4
full path to capability :if: as well. The default level is 2.
