This is a Bourne shell script that automates the ripping, encoding, and
naming of CD's.

This script uses cda for CDDB lookups, cdparanoia, cdda2wav or tosha (a FreeBSD ripper) for ripping,
and bladeenc, 8hz-mp3 or l3enc to encode the wav files.

Cda from the xmcd package must be present to use CDDB.
The setting of the XMCD_LIBDIR enviroment variable can be set from within the script.

I do not have tosha (since I use Linux) nor do I have l3enc so those are untested.
If you have problems with these two programs please let me know so I can fix it.

A couple of things to be aware of for RipEnc 0.7 (some of this is the same for previous versions but
some important additions for 0.7 have been addes so please read!):

1) You will need the newest version of mp3info for it to work correctly. The author took out the command
line options in the last couple of versions but he has put them back in in the current release. (RipEnc uses
the command line switches).

2) All encoding (except for small hard drive option) has been moved into the background! This was a much requested
feature and after seeing it I think it works quite well. After the first song is ripped the encoding process
starts (the script doesn't tell you so but it does...trust me). After all the songs are ripped control goes
back to the menu of RipEnc and you can view details about the encoding process (PID, CPU TIME, as well as the
current song being encoded and the songs that still need to be encoded). You can then rip other CD's. Any song/cd ripped
while the encode process is running will be added to the current queue and will be enocoded! The only problem is if you use
id3 tags and you rip multiple CD's into the same queue your id3 tags will not work. So if you use id3 tags you will not be
able to rip from more than one Cd until the encoding is done. This should be fixed by the next release. Of course if someone
wants to fix it for me that would be great too! (You just have to have a id3info.txt file for each CD and to keep the right
id3info.txt file with the right songs...shouldn't be to hard).

3) All temp files and your default menu settings are saved in a hidden directory named .ripenc in your home account now. RipEnc
takes care of this switch automatically (hopefully :-) )

4) Naming conventions 5 and 6 will not work with various artist CD's. It would be easy to make them
work with various artist CD's but I don't think they would make much sense. If someone thinks differently
just let me know. There is currently no check to make sure you don't use 5 or 6 with a various artist CD
so if you do it will probably result in some unpredictable results. Be Careful.

Several people submitted patches to me that did not make it into 0.7. Rest assured I will get them into
the next release.

Thanks to Evan Jones and Justin Lee who submitted some great changes that made it into 0.7. Justin Lee
created the new song selection menu and I think he did a great job. Thanks!

Please report bugs!!

Any comments/suggestions are appreciated. (good or bad)
