m3u123 version 0.5.1
Copyright (C) 2004, 2005 Andy Sveikauskas <asveik@yahoo.com>

This program is free software under the GNU GPL, see 'COPYING'.

This is a simple program which uses XMMS I/O plugins to play files,
independently of XMMS itself. Not all XMMS plugins will work, but
I've found that most will.

You need the XMMS library (libxmms) to build and use. To build, you
will the headers, which on Linux are often packaged separately.

TO BUILD:

	$ ./configure
	$ make (or possibly "gmake" on non-GNU systems)

TO MAKE A DEBIAN PACKAGE:

	$ make deb

NOTES ABOUT USAGE

	On the command line, you can specify any number of:

	- Playlists (so long as they end in .m3u, or - for stdin)
	- Files that XMMS would know how to play (e.g. foo.mp3, tone://)
	- Directories
		Upon seeing them, m3u123 first tries to use XMMS's
		"scan_dir" hack that is used to play audio CDs.

		If the scan_dir hack doesn't work, m3u123 simply
		recurses into the directory and tries to play all
		files/directories inside.

	You can skip tracks with ^C, or sending SIGINT.

FLAGS:

	-v Verbose mode. Prints extra messages about plugins.

	-V		Display version and exit.

	-o plugin	Use a specified output plugin. The default is
			specified at build time in the configure script.
			You can also override the default with the OUTPUT
			environment variable.

			e.g. '-o OSS'.

A NOTE ABOUT THE ALSA PLUGIN

	Currently, XMMS's ALSA plugin has bugs that are not usually exposed
	by XMMS, but manifest themselves when running under m3u.

	For a patch against XMMS, see:
	http://lists.xmms.org/pipermail/xmms-devel/2004-August/002830.html

	The above will make ALSA work with m3u123, however, I still don't
	recommend it. It has some pretty gross memory leaks and general
	carelessness.

VERSION HISTORY
  0.5.1 2005    more OpenBSD fixes:
		   - uninitialized stack buffer problem for M3U files
		   - pause-on-suspend
		use less of a delay for Linux
  0.5 2005	works better on OpenBSD due to:
		   - increased thread delay
			this does not solve the problem of how m3u123 works.
			bascially because the XMMS plugin model FORCES threading
			it makes us have to do this ugly delay loop.
		   - turn off terminal echo
		condensed output format
		verbose mode
  0.4.5 2004	add sorting to directory loading
  		debian package
  0.4.4 2004	disable ALSA plugin (XMMS code is too buggy)
		disable crossfade plugin (doesn't work)
  0.4.3 2004	scan_dir() support (fixes cd-rom plugin)
