[ Ncat 0.10rc1 TEMPORARY INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ]

This is a temporary README file for the installation instructions and build information
for Ncat 0.10rc1.

Ncat relies on Nmap's infrastrucutre libraries nbase & nsock.
Therefore, these libraries must be built before Ncat can be built.

nbase and nsock are included in the Ncat tarball, so there is no
need to go off and download them yourself.

Simply follow the build instructions below and you should have
a working copy of nbase/nsock and finally Ncat. :)

From the extracted Ncat directory:

$ cd nsock/src/
$ ./configure
$ make
$ cd ../../

This will build both the nsock and nbase libraries. Finally, you have to
build the Ncat binary by running 'make' from the extracted Ncat directory.

$ make

The Ncat binary will now be built and available in the extracted Ncat directory.

I know this build process sucks hard at the moment. However, it *will* be fixed
with nice simple autoconf script-fu. Ncat will be autoconfified in the
next public release. I will also try and get some RPM and .deb's built and
tested too.

There is also some minor issues with running Ncat on other operating systems
other than Linux at the moment, such as FreeBSD. Because Ncat isn't using
autoconf yet, there may be a minimal amount of changes required to get Ncat
to properly build on FreeBSD.

At any rate, worst case scenario for next release build instructions will be:

./configure
make
make install
Drink beer.

Hopefully it will be that simple for all Unices.
