===================================================

Slickworm is a technical demo of what will be a shoot-em-up game
for Linux and Windows.

It features a highly sophisticated landscape engine with LOD,
geomipmapping and terrain deformation. Explosions scar and take
chunks out of the landscape.

It also makes use of Russell Smith's Open Dynamics Engine which is
a free, industrial quality library for simulating articulated rigid
body dynamics. It is used to simulate the vehicle and the rocks.

In this release you can drive the vehicle over the landscape or
shoot the landscape with the rocket shotgun.

Controls
--------
Arrow Keys or WASD : Move
Return: Get in/out of vehicle
R: Reset vehicle to starting position
X/Z: Wireframe mode on/off
O: Capture Screenshot (ppm format)
Left Mouse Button: Fire rocket
Esc: Exit

Command Line Startup Parameters
-------------------------------

Examples

High detail: 1280x1024 + high poly landscape
slickworm -w1280 -h1024 -l6000

Low detail: 320x200 + no shadows + small textures + low poly detail
slickworm -w640 -h480 -s0 -t2 -l1500

 -lx : Landscape detail. approx range 100 - 10000. Higher = better
 -wx -hx : Width & Height of screen.
 -sx : Stencil buffer bits. 0 = don't use stencil buffer.
 -tx : 1 = normal, 2 = half size textures, 4 = quarter size textures

These parameters are subject to change in later versions.

Compiling Instructions (Linux only)
-----------------------------------

Dependencies: SDL, SDL_image, libjpeg, GL, GLU, ODE,
		vorbis [optional], OpenAL [optional]

All of these except ODE are commonly distributed with most Linux
distributions. ODE can be got from www.q12.org/ode . Follow it's
instructions to make it. Copy the headers and libode.a to
/usr/local

    include/ode  --> /usr/local/include/ode
    lib/libode.a --> /usr/local/lib/libode.a

To compile slickworm type

    ./configure
    make
    make install

Then type

    slickworm

to run the game.
