How to install FVWM - Crystal.

In order to install and use FVWM - Crystal, you need working FVWM
(http://www.fvwm.org). Unfortunately, stable versions included with some
distributions (like Debian) cannot be used, because they lack some important
features (like PNG support), which have been introduced in unstable version
(2.5.x series). It's recommended to download the latest unstable version (or
even better, CVS snapshot) from FVWM homepage. You need to run ./configure
then and be sure that png support is enabled (and font anti-aliasing, if you
want) - other options aren't required.

If you want to gain additional functionality, I recommend applying the patches
which can be found in 'doc/' directory.

Then you should compile and install FVWM. After installation, check if the
window manager actually runs. Add the following line:

exec fvwm

at the beginning of '~/.Xsession' (if you start X via 'startx') or
at the beginning of '~/.Xclients' (if you run gdm/kdm/xdm).

Then, run X Window by issuing 'startx' or choose 'Default' in your login
manager. You should see grey desktop with a mouse pointer, and after clicking
a small menu with few options should appear. Congratulations, we now have
our environment ready.

In order to set your own wallpaper you should use 'Esetroot' (this isn't the
best place to describe the reasons, please read it's documentation). It is
the part of `Eterm` package.

I recommend 'aterm' as default terminal. Aterm is set by default as terminal
emulator in variable $FVWM_CRYSTAL_TERMINAL, it can be changed in file
~/.fvwm/enviroment

If you want to have a clock displayed, install 'xdaliclock'.

After installing FVWM you need to install FVWM - Crystal. Copy all files from
'config/*' to '~/.fvwm/*' and add the following line
to '~/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc':

Read load

Also copy image files from 'images/*' to '~/.fvwm/images/*', after that
restart your X session. You should see a desktop, on which when you click RMB
you will have terminal opened. If you have '~/wallpapers' folder, a wallpaper
should be selected automatically.

After installation, click on the gray 'X' icon near the upper left corner of
the screen. Then your desktop should find applications what you have installed
on your system and rebouild it's apps panel. You can now start using FVWM -
Crystal.

Good luck! :)
