How to setup The Mops V0.42d
============================

The information in this file applies to the wrapped standalone
binary distributions of The Mops.
If you compiled The Mops on your own from the source
distribution additional steps may need to be performed
(see src/INSTALL for more information).

1. Setting up a wrapped standalone Mops
---------------------------------------

1.1 Prerequisites
-----------------

Before you start to setup The Mops you
should get, install and setup OpenGL
(Mesa may be used as replacement for a real OpenGL)
and BMRT:

o Make sure everything is set up correctly, execute
some OpenGL demo programs, render some examples with
  BMRTs rendrib _and_ rgl.
o Put rendrib and rgl into your search path.

1.2 Installing the Executable
-----------------------------

Enter the src directory:
>cd src

Copy Makefile.wrapped to Makefile:
>cp Makefile.wrapped Makefile

Edit the Makefile, you probably just need to
adapt BINDIR, LIBDIR and DOCDIR to your needs;
Note, that the directories a) must exist b) have to be writable,
and that the installation will create a subdirectory named
"mops" in LIBDIR and DOCDIR.
Now issue a:
>make install

1.3 Configuring The Mops
------------------------

Copy the file "src/mopsrc" to your home as ".mopsrc".
Another way is to put it somewhere and let the environment
variable "MOPSRC" point to the file!

Edit the file to customize The Mops, but be careful if
you are not accustomed to the Tcl syntax.
The file itself should explain all necessary things.

1.4 First Start
---------------

Start The Mops:
>mops

Take a look at the messages in the console,
red messages denote serious errors.
They usually provide enough information on how to fix the problem.
If The Mops crashes on startup try it without mopsrc
(i.e. remove ~/.mopsrc, or unsetenv MOPSRC) first.
If the problem persists check presence and correct
function of OpenGL and other shared libraries mops
loads (>ldd mops) and read the FAQ:
http://www.informatik.uni-rostock.de/~rschultz/mops/Mops-FAQ.txt

1.5 Win32 specific Information
------------------------------

There is no automatic installation for Win32.
You may leave all files where unpacked.

The default location for the mopsrc file is "$(HOME)/mopsrc"
if the environment variable HOME exists, else "$(TEMP)/mopsrc".

On NT, you can set environment variables using
Start/Settings/Control-Panel/System/Environment.
On other systems you probably have to edit autoexec.bat.

The Mops on Win32 cannot dynamically load custom objects.
The Mops does not work correctly when in any path or filenames
appear spaces " " or backslashes "\"!

2. Setting up a shared Mops
---------------------------

2.1 Prerequisites
-----------------

Before you start to setup The Mops you
should get, install and setup OpenGL
(Mesa may be used as replacement for a real OpenGL)
and BMRT:

o Make sure everything is set up correctly, execute
some OpenGL demo programs, render some examples with
  BMRTs rendrib _and_ rgl.
o Put rendrib and rgl into your search path.

2.2 Installing the Executable
-----------------------------

Enter the src directory:
>cd src

Copy Makefile.shared to Makefile:
>cp Makefile.shared Makefile

Edit the Makefile, you probably just need to
adapt BINDIR, LIBDIR and DOCDIR to your needs;
Note, that the directories a) must exist b) have to be writable,
and that the installation will create a subdirectory named
"mops" in LIBDIR and DOCDIR.
Now issue a:
>make install

This will additionally create a small shell script named "mops" that
calls the binary "mopssh" the right way.

2.3 Configuring The Mops
------------------------

Copy the file "src/mopsrc" to your home as ".mopsrc".
Another way is to put it somewhere and let the environment
variable "MOPSRC" point to the file!

Edit the file to customize The Mops, but be careful if
you are not accustomed to the Tcl syntax.
The file itself should explain all necessary things.

Set the environment variable MOPSLIB to point to the directory
where you installed the button images. (This is equivalent to the
setting of "LIBDIR/mops" in the Makefile.)

2.4 First Start
---------------

Start The Mops:
>mops

Take a look at the messages in the console,
red messages denote serious errors.
They usually provide enough information on how to fix the problem.
If The Mops crashes on startup try it without mopsrc
(i.e. remove ~/.mopsrc, or unsetenv MOPSRC) first.
If the problem persists check presence and correct
function of OpenGL and other shared libraries mops
loads (>ldd mops) and read the FAQ:
