MiniRacer Compilation:

Linux:

copy "Makefile.linuxglx" to "Makefile" and edit it.
There are a few options of interest (DEFS):

remove -DSOUND if you don't have SDL_mixer 1.2 installed.
remove -DVIDMODEXT_GAMMA_RAMP if your XFree86 VidModeExtensions don't support
VidModeGammaRamp functions (eg. when your XFree86 VidModeExtensions are older
than version 2.1)
then just type "make".

There are also some GL specific definitions:
-DGL_LOCK_ARRAYS_EXT enables the glLockArrays extension. This always fails when
using the proprietary ATI FireGL driver and is disabled by default.
-DGL_ARRAYS_FOR_TEXT enables the usage of GL arrays for drawing text. This is
also disabled by default, a WinQuake-like implementation is used instead.

If you're unsure if your system meets these requirements, just try to compile
without modifying the Makefile. If you get an error message when compiling
sound_sdl.c, remove -DSOUND, if you get an error on gl_vidlinuxglx.c, remove
-DVIDMODE_GAMMA_RAMP

You can also compile a MiniRacer RPM. You have to copy "miniracer.spec" to
the "SPECS" dir and the complete archive "miniracer-<version>.tar.gz" to the
"SOURCES" dir of your RPM directory hierarchy. Then, from the top of your RPM
directory hierarchy, type "rpm -bb SPECS/miniracer.spec". If successful, you'll
find a "miniracer-<version>.i386.rpm" in the "RPMS/i386" dir.

Windows:

I also use gcc (mingw32) under windows, because I don't have VC++.
The file "engine.dev" is a project file for the opensource IDE Dev-C++
(downloadable from http://www.bloodshed.net).
If you want to compile MiniRacer with gcc on the commandline, use
"make -f Makefile.win". You can do that on linux using mingw32 cross compiler:
"make -f Makefile.wincross"
You can also use cygwin with VC++ and wrapmsvc.exe: wrapmsvc.exe is a wrapper
that calls the microsoft compiler cl.exe and behaves like gcc. It is taken from
Coin3d <www.coin3d.org>. Be sure you have set the environment options for VC++
(if you want to use VC++ Toolkit 2003 you also need the PSDK), start cygwin
bash, copy Makefile.wrapmsvc to Makefile and then type "make".

Have fun!
