The EMP Extensions Daemon is a process which runs on a monitored node and
provides the EMP module with realtime sensor data from the BMC. The daemon is
necessary because current generation EMP implimentations do not allow remote
reading of sensors. The daemon listens on UDP port 9352 for datagrams containing
a sensor number. The daemon also provides an interface to the BMC hardware
watchdog. In order to function, the daemon requires the IPMI KCS
driver to be loaded into the kernel. The IPMI KCS driver provides userland
utilities with a method of communicating with the BMC locally. The current
latest driver is 0.12, and there are two patches which may be applied. The
first patch is for 2.2.14 VA Linux Systems modified kernels and is named
'ipmi_kcs_0.10_to_0.12_va_2.2.14.patch'. The second patch is for stock Linux
2.2.14 kernels and is named 'ipmi_kcs_0.12.linux-2.2.14.patch'. If you are
running a kernel later than 2.2.14, the patch should still apply.

To use the emp_extentd utility, simply transfer it to a monitored node and add
the daemon to the nodes startup init scripts. The daemon will have to be
manually backgrounded as so:

/usr/bin/emp_extentd [ON/OFF] [REBOOT/NOREBOOT]
The [ON/OFF] reflects weather or not you want the daemon to open up a network
socket and wait for sensor extensions data. The REBOOT/NOREBOOT specifies
weather you want the machine to automatically reboot itself when the watchdog
fails.

The daemon itself runs silent after the initial banner is displayed, and will
display no output.
