1.0 Overview
_____________
1.1 This package contains the IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II (RSA II)
Daemons for x86 and x86-64 Linux operating systems running on xSeries servers.

        1.2 Limitations
              - N/A

        1.3 Enhancements

              - N/A

1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update:

              - N/A

        1.5 Dependencies:

              - Some older xSeries servers require a mini USB cable to be connected
between the RSA II and a USB port on the xSeries server. Consult
your server's documentation to see if this is required on your
machine. Also make sure the RSA II is configured for "Linux OS".
If either of these steps are not performed then the RSA II Daemon
installation may fail. Refer to the RSA II Installation Guide and
RSA II User's Guide for additional information.

              - The RSA II Daemon requires the libusb and libusb-devel packages to be
installed on servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or VMware
ESX Server 3 (and higher). If your distribution does not include/install
these 2 packages please reference Section 3 for libusb installation
                instructions.

              - If you have GCC compiler version 2.96, you should update it to version 3.xx.

              - The system that the source rpm file is to be run on must have Linux
development/build capability and be properly configured for your hardware.

2.0 Installation and setup instructions
________________________________________

                        ******** Note to SLES9 SP4 customers: ********

Edit the file /etc/hotplug/usb.rc and change the one
instance of "$MODPROBE" to "modprobe" (i.e. use the
actual command name instead of shell variable) and reboot
the system. Then follow the Installation and setup
instructions in section 2 of the readme file to install
or update the RSA II Daemon.

2.1 Unattended install or update of the RSA II Daemon using the install script

              Execute the following command:
                   tar xzf ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp2xxa_linux_32-64.tgz; ./install.sh --update
where xx is the version number of the package.

2.2 Upgrading the RSA II Daemon using the RPM client

NOTE: RSA II Daemon version 1.39 or later must already be installed on your
system for this upgrade step to function properly.

              1. Extract the files
              	    tar xzvf ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp2xx_linux_32-64.tgz
where xx is version number 40 or higher.
              2. Go to the RPMS directory
              	    cd ./RPMS
              3. Find and upgrade the rpm package for your OS. For example, the
following command upgrades the RSA II Daemon to version 1.40 on a server
                 running RHEL5 x86-64.
              	    rpm -U ibmusbasm64-1.40_rhel5-2.x86_64.rpm

2.3 Manual install of a RSA II binary rpm

              1. Extract the files
              	    tar xzvf ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp2xx_linux_32-64.tgz
where xx is the version number of the RSA II package.
              2. Go to the RPMS directory
              	    cd ./RPMS
              3. Find and install the rpm package for your OS. For example, the
following command installs version 1.36 of the RSA II Daemon on
                 a server running RHEL4 x86.
              	    rpm -ivh ibmusbasm-1.36_rhel4-2.i686.rpm

If your operating system is not listed in the RPMS directory, then refer
to section 2.3 for steps to install the RSA II source rpm.
NOTE: VMware ESX Server 3.x.x is not listed because the rhel3-2 rpm is
automatically installed. Therefore you do not need to install
the source rpm in section 2.3.

2.4 Manual install of a RSA II source rpm

              1. Extract the files
              	    tar xzvf ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp2xx_linux_32-64.tgz
where xx is the version number of the RSA II package.
              2. Go to the SRPMS directory
              	    cd ./SRPMS
              3. There are four source rpms in the SRPMS directory and they should be used
                 as follows.
ibmusbasm-1.xx-2.src.rpm for VMware ESX 3.x and 32-bit Linux except RHEL5
                 ibmusbasm64-1.xx-2.src.rpm for 64-bit Linux except RHEL5
                 ibmusbasm-rhel5-1.xx-2.src.rpm for 32-bit RHEL5
                 ibmusbasm64-rhel5-1.xx-2.src.rpm for 64-bit RHEL5
Install the appropriate rpm for your Linux configuration.

Here are 2 source rpm installation examples.
For 32-bit Linux, the install commands are:
                   rpmbuild --rebuild ibmusbasm-1.XX-2.src.rpm
                   cd /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i386
                    ( For Red Hat: cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386 )
                   rpm -ivh ibmusbasm-1.XX.i386.rpm
where xx is the version number of the RSA II package.

For 64-bit Linux, the install commands are:
                   rpmbuild --rebuild ibmusbasm64-1.XX-2.src.rpm
                   cd /usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64
                    ( For Red Hat: cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/x86_64 )
                   rpm -ivh ibmusbasm64-1.XX-2.x86_64.rpm
where xx is the version number of the RSA II package.

        2.5 Un-installing the ibmusbasm RPM

If you installing the RSA II Daemon using the command shown in section 2.1 above,
then it is no longer necessary to uninstall a previous RSA II Daemon prior to
upgrading to a newer version. However, you can remove the RSA II Daemon from
your system with the following steps.

First make sure that no management applications are using the RSA II Daemon and
then issue one of the commands, shown below, from a shell prompt. Depending upon
your system's configuration, you may see messages about missing files when
running the "rpm -e" commands. You may safely ignore those messages. The RPM
utility will unload the Daemon and remove all its related files, including the
              ibmspup and ibmspdown utilities.

For 32-bit Red Hat or SLES installations issue the following command:
              rpm -e ibmusbasm
                   or
              rpm -e ibmusbasm-rhel5 (on 32-bit RHEL5)

For 64-bit Red Hat or SLES installations issue the following command:
              rpm -e ibmusbasm64
                   or
              rpm -e ibmusbasm64-rhel5 (on 64-bit RHEL5)

        2.6 Utility Programs

There are two useful utility programs installed with this RPM. You must have
root privileges to run these utilities.

ibmspup is a small script that loads ibmasm (the service processor daemon).

              ibmspdown unloads the modules.

These modules will not load if you do not have the RSA II hardware installed.

3.0 libusb Requirements
________________________

3.1 This RSA II RPM requires version 0.1.6 (or later) of the libusb/libusb-devel
rpms. These are included in most current distributions, but if not, they must
be installed prior to installing this RPM.

Note: On some distributions such as SLES the libusb-devel package has been
combined with the libusb package, so only the libusb package is required.
