Vovida SIP Load Generator Frequently Asked Questions
September, 2001

1. How do I use the load generator?

The load generator is used to place a call load on a proxy. you should setup
a recieving UAS to actually terminate the call. Most of the relevant
information on different configurable parameters is located in elgee.conf

added for	: now the loadgen can be used in three modes, viz. originating,
release 2.0.0	: terminating and registration only!!!

2. I have ElGee running, but it's sending messages from localhost. Why?

the defualt source host is retrieved by 'gethostbyname()'. Your machine
must know its own hostname for SIP messaging to work correctly. Check
your /etc/hosts file, and add an entry for your computer.
optionally, you can also specify source host:port as ElGee's command line
arguments or config file.

3. Why is effective CPS less than configured value?

presently there's a delta that adds up to call to call delay due to a single
woker thread. we plan to improve ElGee in future release to minimize delta.

added for	: now the loadgen does call rates very close to the specified
release 2.0.0	: CPS.

4 Where can I get more help?

Join the SIP mailing list on www.vovida.org. We have an active list with
plenty of people willing and able to help.

- Misc load gen notes:

Q: Can I run ElGee on the same machine where UAS resides?
A: Yes. You'll need to make sure that they both are using
        different ports.

Q: Can I run multiple load generators on the same machine?
A: Yes. Again, you'll need to make sure that they are using different
        ports.

Good luck!
