UNIX:

make sure to have installed (newer versions should also work...)
   automake-1.6.3
   autoconf-2.53
   nasm-0.98.34
   SDL-1.2.4 + SDL-devel
   SDL_image + SDL_image-devel
   slang + slang-devel 1.4.8-12
   openssl + openssl-devel 0.9.7d
   XFree86-devel-4.3.0-15 (or called xorg-x11-devel)
   Qt-3.1.1, Qt-devel
   freetype2
   expat-1.95.6-11
mad + devel (fast mp3 decoding, maybe called libmad on your system)
   libogg + devel
   libtheora (>= alpha4) + devel

those libraries come with our ViTooKi for local usage:
(if wanted, the global versions could be used, too)
   paragui-1.0.4-beta2
   lame-3.93.1
   ffmpeg-cvs-2004-01-27 with ./configure --enable-mp3lame

make sure, that $TOOLPREFIX in rules.mk is set to where all external libraries
are installed!

first, type the following to build all needed libs and finally ViTooKi
linux$> make World

later, only type to rebuild the ViTooKi libs and applications
linux$> make;

if you want to clean everything (including built libs), type
linux$> make distclean

if you want, install ViTooKi to $PREFIX, which can be changed in rules.mk
linux$> make install

to uninstall, just use
linux$> make uninstall

TROUBLE SHOOTING:
if there are any library path problems, check the
vitooki/rules.mk to edit paths and libraries.

If the library complains that it can not find qt or moc/uic,
lookup the location of these files in your system
and edit your .bashrc to include the following
defines:
export QTDIR= /usr/lib/qt3
export QT_LIBS= -L$(QTDIR)/lib
export UIC= $(QTDIR)/bin/uic
export MOC= $(QTDIR)/bin/moc
export QT_INCLUDES= -I$(QTDIR)/include

Update the above example so that it matches your system!

EXAMPLE USAGE:
first, execute the following line to add the ViTooKi library to the path:

   linux$> export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:../../src/.libs

copy the test videos from vitooki/media to vitooki/apps/muviserver
then start the server in vitooki/apps/muviserver with

   linux$> ./muviserver 5554

(it will demux the test videos coastguard_9_6.mp4 and
coastguard+jazzpiano.mp4 and then wait for connections)
start the muviplayer client in apps/muviplayer with

   linux$> ./muviplayer

    and connect to rtsp://localhost:5554/coastguard_9_6.mp4
     hit play and enjoy!
