 \ GAnSO \
  `-------^----------- GNOME Animation StudiO ------------------------------

GAnSO is a piece of software for creating and composing animations
in a GNOME environment. It has a little yet powerfull core, that supports
lots of extensions: filters, stream editors, templates and codecs.

This package includes the core, a MPEG-1 codec and a sample plug-in
which has a filter, a stream editor and a template, just to show how easy is
to extend GAnSO, but which can be usefull to build some videos, as this
filter performs progressive alpha decreasing/increasing of a stream, effect
that is very used in professional creations to change from one video to
another one while both keep animated.

This project was started only with the idea of creating a simple
graphical front-end with some MPEG-1 encoder, like the ucbmpeg one, but it
was designed with the idea of leaving a lot of doors opened for extending
it. And now, you can extend it so much, that with the appropiate plug-ins it
will can compete with the more expensive professional video editing
programs.

At this time, you can only use, as video sources, separated images
(PPM or PNG, this last with complete alpha support). I will try to add a new
extensible entity, that allows you to read from compressed MPEG, GIF, and
any other that you create.

The sound support is still in its desigh phase, but it will be
available soon, I'm thinking on the possibility of incorporate (maybe
through CORBA) some tracker, as they are the best sound editing programs.
