Selection of the Upgrade Strategy 

Procedure

Select an upgrade strategy that is appropriate to the instance type of the database instance, and the source and target versions of the database software. Proceed as described for your chosen upgrade strategy.

If your database instance fulfills the necessary prerequisites, we recommend that you use the program SDBUPD, since an upgrade with this program removes the need for most of the user interaction, and is quicker and safer.

Update Strategies for SAP DB OLTP Database Instances

* Use SDBUPD if your database instance is part of an SAP system.
In special cases, you can use SDBUPD even if the database instance is not part of an SAP system. See Prerequisites for Using SDBUPD under Updating Database Instances and Their Software.
