A data backup saves the contents of the data volumes, and the database parameter values needed for recoveries.

For the SAP DB database system, we differentiate between the following types of data backup:

·        Complete data backup

·        Incremental data backup

You can perform complete or incremental backups in the operational state ONLINE or ADMIN.

Data backups are always consistent in themselves. To recover the database, you need, alongside the data backup, the appropriate log backups for a point-of-failure recovery or point-in-time recovery. The time you choose must be after the completion of the data backup.

You can perform data backups in parallel (Parallel Backup).
