Media Name 

To perform a backup or a recovery with external backup tools, you use the Database Manager. Which backup tool is used is determined by the Database Manager according to the media name or, in the case of parallel backups, according to the name of the media group.

Definition

To perform a backup action with external backup tools, a specially named backup medium or group of backup media is required. The following sequences of letters at the beginning of a media name/media group name determine which external backup tools are used for backups on this medium/group of media, or for restores from this medium/group of media:
