Performing a Recovery with External Backup Tools
(DBMCLI)
If you use external backup tools for recovery, you have to specify the external backup IDs of the relevant backups.
The operational state of the database instance is ADMIN. You have configured the relevant backup tool.

You have determined the necessary external backup IDs (see Determining and Displaying the External Backup ID (DBMCLI) or Determining and Displaying the External Backup ID (DBMGUI)).
You have inserted
the required
backup
medium.
You can perform a
recovery with an interactive session of the
Database Manager
CLI, or non-interactively.
You can recover a
data
backup (complete or incremental) and the first
log backup
interactively by using the following DBMCLI commands:
recover_start <medium> <type> ExternalBackupID <external_backup_ID>
· <medium>: Backup medium (see Media Name), from where you want to import the backup (if necessary, enter a media group here)
·
<type>: Type of
backup
data: Complete data
backup
pages: Incremental data
backup
log: Log backup
·
<external_backup_ID>: External backup ID that is used to identify the
backup to the external backup tool
If the external backup ID
contains blank characters, you have to enter the external backup ID in
quotation marks:
"<external_backup_ID>"
For parallel backups, all the external backup IDs of each backup part have to
be separated by a comma and transferred as a whole list set in quotation
marks:
"<external_backup_ID1>, <external_backup_ID2>, ...,
<external_backup_IDn>"
If it is necessary to import more than one log backup, the second and all subsequent log backups can be imported interactively by using the following DBMCLI commands:
recover_replace <medium> ExternalBackupID <external_backup_ID>
If the external
backup ID contains blank characters, you have to enter the it in quotation
marks:
"<external_backup_ID>"

In most cases you have to import more than one log backup. For this reason, you must always perform log backups in interactive DBMCLI sessions so that you can react to the requirements of the database kernel (additional log backups required). To import all the log backups, you use the command recover_start, and then you have to use the command recover_replace.
Recovery with NetWorker (non-interactive):

dbmcli -u dbm,dbm -uUTL -d mydb recover_start NSRPages pages ExternalBackupID "NST 994245367 P47579"
The relevant information for the recovery appears after the keyword recover_start:
Name of backup
medium: NSRPages
Type of backup: pages
(incremental backup)
External backup ID: NST 994245367 P47579

For non-interactive DBMCLI sessions, note the rules of the relevant shell regarding quotation marks. It is important that the quotation marks are communicated to the Database Manager.

Recovery
The relevant backup ID is communicated to the Database Manager, and the recovery is started.
