Prerequisites

You have imported the relevant patch for the database software update.

Procedure

  1. Choose Instance ® Online to start the Structure linkdatabase instance.
    The first time the Database Manager is started after there has been a change in the version of the database software, it automatically adjusts the database instance kernel parameters to the new version of the database software.
  2. To update the system tables, choose Instance ® Configuration ® Upgrade System Tables (See also: Updating the System Tables).

Result

The Database Manager creates a copy of the parameter file each time a parameter is changed. The serial number extension indicates the version, whereby 01 is the latest version:
UNIX: /usr/spool/sql/config/<database_name>.<running_number>
Microsoft Windows NT/Windows 95: %DBROOT%\CONFIG\<database_name>.<running_number>

Note

Should errors occur while loading the parameters, the operation can be undone by restoring the original parameter file. To do so, use the Structure linkDatabase Manager CLI program to copy the file <database_name>.<running_number> (copy of parameter file) back to <database_name> (active parameter file).
