                    ===================================        Updated:
                    setmon utility for KGI, version 0.2 981006
                    ===================================

Introduction
============

Setmon is a utility to set the monitor type used by the generic monitor
driver of kgicon. As incorrect monitor parameters may damage your monitor
you need to be root to change them in a kgicon driver.

Setmon is intended to be run at boot-time to set the monitor parameters
of all kgicon devices. It is STRONGLY recommended that you NOT make setmon
suid root as it is in no way intended to be used like that.

Usage
=====

setmon [OPTION]... [FILE]...

Where OPTION is one or more of:
  -h display this help and exit
  -v output version information and exit

and FILE is a list of files to be processed by setmon. If FILE is omited
setmon defaults to process /etc/ggi/kgicon.mon

DB Format
=========

The file(s) that setmon processes should have the following format:

<device1>:
<vendor>
<model>
<graphtypes>
<flags>
<maxwidth>x<maxheight>
<physwidth>x<physheight>
<displaytype>
<synctype>
<mindclk>-<maxdclk>
<minhfreq>-<maxhfreq>
<minvfreq>-<maxvfreq>
[<timings>]

<device2>:
<vendor2>
...
...
...

Description:
<device?> = The device we should write the specs to (eg. /dev/fb?)
<vendor> = A string containing the name of the vendor
<model> = A string containing the model name of the monitor
<graphtypes> = The only supported value for this is "GM_ALL"
<flags>		 = kgi_flags, see enum kgi_flags in kgi/kgi.h. This can be
		   either a list of strings separated by '|', or a single
		   numerical value
<maxwidth> = The maximum supported width (in dots)
<maxheight> = The maximum supported height (in dots)
<physwidth> = The physical width of the monitor in mm
<physheight> = The physical height of the monitor in mm
<displaytype>	 = kgi_display_type, see kgi/kgi.h. This can be either a
		   string or a numerical value
<synctype>	 = kgi_sync, see enum kgi_flags in kgi/kgi.h. This can be
		   either a list of strings separated by '|', or a single
		   numerical value
<mindclk> = The minimum dotclock in Hz (usually 0)
<maxdclk> = The maximum dotclock in Hz (often refered to as bandwidth)
<minhfreq> = The minimum horizontal frequency in Hz
<maxhfreq> = The maximum horizontal frequency in Hz
<minvfreq> = The minimum vertical frequency in Hz
<maxvfreq> = The maximum vertical frequency in Hz
<timings> = An optional list of timings. (If <synctype> doesn't contain
		   SYNC_MULTISYNC this entry is mandatory.)
		   The list has the following format:
28322000
720, 720, 765, 873, 882, 900, 0
480, 488, 489, 491, 516, 524, 0
28322000
720, 720, 765, 873, 882, 900, 0
400, 407, 412, 414, 442, 449, 1
			see struct kgi_preset in kgi/kgi.h for info on what
			the numbers mean.

Whitespace EXCEPT NEWLINE is ignored.
Each device should be separated by one or more empty lines.
A line beginning with a '#' is considered to be a comment.
Comments are NOT allowed inside monitor specs, only before or after each spec.

Look at the sample.* files for example database entries.
