Compilation, Installation and Use

    This Oracle7Adapter is based on the OCI v.7 API from Oracle
    Inc. Therefore, to compile it and to use it, the Oracle7 headers
    and libraries are needed.

    In the file 'Makefile.preamble' are defined include and library
    macros that use the environment variable ORACLE_HOME to find these
    files.

    NOTE: Please, check and update these macro definitions, since
    they've been set up with an Oracle v.8 installation, and not an
    Oracle v.7.

    When executing an application that loads the Oracle7Adapter, it
    will be necessary to have installed on the same computer the
    client Oracle7 libraries and to have set LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or
    equivalent for the target system), including the paths to the
    Oracle7 libraries. These libraries will also need to have the
    ORACLE_HOME environment variable correctly set.

    Note that ORACLE_HOME is not the home of the oracle user, but the
    path to the installation directory of the used RDBMS version. It
    may be something like '/home/oracle/products/7.3.4'.

    In short, to compile the Oracle7 adaptor:

        Check and update the variables defined in Makefile.preamble
        to match your Oracle installation version.

        <gnustep-installation-dir-path>/Makefiles/GNUstep.csh

        setenv ORACLE_HOME      <oracle-installation-dir-path>
        setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH  <oracle-libraries-dir-paths>:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

        cd $ORACLE_ADAPTOR_SOURCES
        make ORACLE7_DATABASE=yes all install

    To use the Oracle7 adaptor, merely launch an application using an
    EOModel with:

           adaptorName = Oracle7;
           adaptorClassName = Oracle7Adaptor;

    with the following environment setup:

        <gnustep-installation-dir-path>/Makefiles/GNUstep.csh

        setenv ORACLE_HOME      <oracle-installation-dir-path>
        setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH  <oracle-libraries-dir-paths>:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
