This folder contains KCardSetup, the KDE setup tool for LibChipCard.

It allows setting up the chipcard daemon and the client.
Since 0.7 this version allows testing the readers before saving the
configuration.

Please note that for testing your card readers the chipcard daemon MUST NOT
run. If it does you won't get access to the readers from within KCardSetup,
since the readers are locked by the chipcard daemon.

So for setting up LibChipCard I recommend this:
- stop the chipcard daemon ("killall chipcardd" should do it)
- start KCardSetup
- restart chipcard daemon ("chipcardd" should be enough)

Since the chipcard daemon uses unprevileged ports I strongly recommend
starting it as a normal user instead of root !!

If you only use card readers local to your computer you should select the
address "127.0.0.1" throughout your configuration. This setting prevents
the chipcard daemon from serving the internet ;-)

However, if you want the chip card daemon to serve you local network you must
use an address that is connectable by other hosts in your network (so
"127.0.0.1" won't work).

Sometimes the chipcard daemon makes some debugging output which might be
of interest, so I recommend writing it into a log file. The best way to
achieve this is to use the following command:
                chipcardd 2>/PATH/TO/YOUR/LOGFILE
Please don't use "/var/log" for this purpose, since that would most probably
require the chip card daemon to be started as root, which is not necessary for
the daily work of the card daemon and should therefore be avoided !
I myself start the daemon as user "martin" and make him write the log to my
home directory, so my command is
                chipcardd 2>~/chipcardd.log
This allows me to monitor the daemons work by issuing the command
                tail -f ~/chipcardd.log
