Introduction

This is vmailmgr-admin 0.97. It provides the ability to add and delete domains
and domain aliases and change domain quota settings on virtual domains managed
by vmailmgr through a web interface. Used together with Olivier Mueller's
omail-admin (http://omail.omnis.ch), it can make administration of a
vmailmgr-based mail server very fast and simple.

vmailmgr-admin is written in PHP 4 and C. It works, at least for me, but it is
still very rough and could use some help (bug reports, fixes and patches are
welcome). Many file and/or directory names are hard coded in the include files,
but the code structure is mainly sane.

As with any configuration tool, there are security issues with vmailmgr-admin.
The PHP code, which runs as the web server, needs to be able to modify qmail's
control files (rcpthosts and virtualdomains) and omail's quota files, and calls
the C code to perform tasks only available to root, such as adding and deleting
users, setting up virtual domains, and restarting qmail. The C programs are
setuid root, and although care has been taken to avoid problems such as buffer
overflows, they may still have bugs. Luckily, there is very little C code to
look at.

It would probably be more appropriate if the tasks performed by the setuid C
programs were taken over by vmailmgrd, which runs as root in a more controlled
environment. Maybe this will happen in a future version of vmailmgr.

Domain aliases

Domain aliases are not supported as such by vmailmgr. However, it is possible
for mail addressed to different domains to be delivered to the same mailboxes
by assigning both domains to the same unix user, so for example mail delivered
to any address@domain.com goes in the same mailbox as mail delivered to
address@domain.net.

vmailmgr-admin has the concept of a user's "primary domain", which is stored
in the user's comment field in /etc/passwd. Any other domains belonging to the
same user are considered aliases of the primary domain; if the if the primary
domain is deleted, the aliases are deleted too.

Quotas

vmailmgr-admin does not use system quotas but writes the vmailmgrquotas file
which is used by omail to set maximum user and alias limits, quotas etc.

New domains are created with the default quota, if the file contains one.
