Introduction:
-------------

JabberX is a unix console Jabber client. Jabber is a cross-platform,
open source, XML-based, distributed instant messaging system. You can
find more information about Jabber at http://www.jabber.org.

JabberX is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it
under the terms of the GNU General Public License. A copy of GNU GPL
is included in COPYING file.

Requirements:
-------------

Iksemel library (from http://jabber-x.sourceforge.net)
NCurses or S-Lang package.
Autoconf and Automake packages are required for compiling from cvs.
Perl is required for building perl scripting support.

Compiling & Install:
--------------------

Download, compile, and install Iksemel library.

If you got JabberX from CVS, you can create configure scripts
and other autoconf stuff with

   ./autogen.sh

then type

  ./configure

For using slang instead of ncurses, you must run it with --enable-slang argument.
you can give --disable-perl argument to configure script for disabling
perl scripting support.

  make

  (become root if necessary)
  make install

Usage:
------

type

  JabberX --help

for command line options.

Configuration:
--------------

JabberX read its configuration from ".JabberXrc" file in your home
directory (you can change this by --config command line argument).
Format of the file is naturally XML. Here is an example:

<JabberX>
<jid>dean@unseen.edu</jid>
<password>bornToRune</password>
<logfile>/home/dean/logs/JabberX.xml</logfile>
</JabberX>

<jid> and <password> tags are evident. All the incoming/outgoing XML
data is stored in <logfile> (useful for debugging). If you left it
empty, logging is disabled.
