    What is NetLED?
 ______________________________________________________________________________

NetLED is a program to monitor local network devices using the LEDs on
any standard keyboard. You can map the caps-lock, scroll-lock, or
numeric-lock LEDs to either incoming or outgoing traffic. You can also
choose not to monitor traffic of each kind, or map both to the same LED.

NetLED was written long ago, and since then has undergone many
interesting changes. Most notibly, it has been re-written from scratch
three or four times. Also added has been daemon support. You can look
at the CHANGES file for more information on NetLED's convoluted history.

In the future, features such as input/output modules, XML configuration,
and more, will be implemented. Have a look at the TODO file for info.

    What does NetLED depend on?
 ______________________________________________________________________________

All you need is a Linux-based computer and a C compiler. In the future
you may require libxml or libxml2. If I ever write an X Windows
application to change the configuration file, you will require X and
GTK or KDE. Probably KDE, though.

Have a look at the INSTALL file for instructions on compiling NetLED.

    Using NetLED

The best reference is the NetLED manual page. To view this reference,
type 'man netled'. You should, however, be able to just run it.
