Freebooters installation guide:

Freebooters is known to compile on GNU/Linux, Free BSD and Open BSD.
There's partial support for Microsoft Windows through MinGW as well.
Please tell us if Freebooters compiles on other platforms as well,
if you need patches, send them with the report.

1. Read the documentation in the doc/ subdirectory

2. Make sure that you have the following libraries installed on
   your system:
   libsdl (version 1.2)
   libsdl_mixer (version 1.2)
   libsdl_image (version 1.2)
   libsdl_ttf (version 2.0)

Note that you'll need the developer libraries, which include the
header files. It has been reported that the SDL libraries from
libsdl.org were not working, with the SDL lins from the fink
   project everything should work fine.

3. You'll need the following tools for compilation:
   make
   C++ compiler (gcc 3.2 - 3.4 recommended, gcc 2.95 is supported as
well but might be dropped in the future)

4. Edit the Makefile if you want to change the installation path
(default: /usr/local) or compiler flags (default: -O2 with debug
   symbols)

5. Run "make" in the freebooters/ directory to compile.

6. Run "make install" as root to install. If you installed in a different
directory that the default /usr/local/share/freebooters you'll have to
   edit /etc/freebooters.conf

7. Enjoy and report bugs to freebooters-devel@gna.org.
