Verified to work with Linux systems that have avifile-0.6.xxxxxx
installed and libmpeg3-1.2.1, 1.2.3, 1.5.0 available.

See below for libmpeg3-1.5 special instructions.

I (jcaldwel) cannot verify that avifile-0.53.x will work any longer, I
did not take the time to uninstall 0.6x and reinstall the older
versions. 0.6x can be hell to get installed right on RedHat 7.x.

The makefile no longer assumes that avifile has been installed in a
fixed location, it uses avifile-config to find it, the install prefix
now only applies to avi2divx and mpeg2divx.

Installation prefix is defined in the makefile, edit it and change
PREFIX to where you want, it defaults to /usr/local

The install prefix is now ONLY an install prefix, see the ChangeLog
for details.

Libmpeg3 will be configured and made for you. If you need different
options to libmpeg3's configure, edit the makefile and change
LIBMPEG3-OPTIONS= to what you want. This does not fully apply to
libmpeg3-1.5 as it looks to have been hastily packaged.

To use libmpeg3-1.5 takes some effort, untar it in this directory and
move libmpeg3 to libmpeg3-1.5, edit the x2divx Makefile and set
LIBMPEG3=libmpeg3-1.5, ignore the make error about configure being
absent as it's been removed from libmpeg3 so you will need to manually
edit libmpeg3's Makefile to turn css or mmx on or off. It defaults to
css on and mmx off. If you want to activate the CFLAGS mentioned in the
docs under libmpeg3 then make libmpeg manually and then unset the CFLAGS
and continue with x2divx build. I don't yet know how to automate this.

Then type:

make
make install

Also:

make clean
only removes avi2divx and mpeg2divx, core and .o files

make distclean
Does the above and runs make clean in the libmpeg3 directory and
removes *.avi files as well so move them elsewhere if needed.
