In order to install dbg server part follow instructions below.

- Have dbg unpacked in any directory OUT of tree of php sources. For example,
  in $HOME/dbg

- Make sure you have compiled and installed php engine. If you use pre-compiled php, do
  not forget to install php-devel package and make sure php-config is intalled.

- run configure and make like below:

./configure --enable-dbg=shared \
            --with-dbg-profiler \
	    --with-php-config=/path/to/php-config \
	    --prefix=/usr/lib/php4
make
make install

NOTE: your system may have php extensions installed on a different directory, please check
      phpinfo output and update --prefix accordingly

- edit php.ini
  find list of extension= entries and add a line like below
  extension=dbg.so

NOTE: if you have extensions like ZendOptimizer, do not use extension=dbg.so, please
      add dbg like shown:
      zend_extension=/path/to/dbg.so
      this line should appear before any other zend_extension entries
      (Windows users: zend_extension_ts should be used instead of zend_extension)

- add the following section in the end of php.ini:

[Debugger]
debugger.enabled=on
debugger.profiler_enabled=on

NOTE: this is free version of debugger and instead of commercial branch, this one does
      NOT support IP security. In other words, debugger.hosts_allow, debugger.hosts_deny
      and debugger.ports will NOT work. If you want to install it on a production server,
      you should understand potential risk.

- restart web server (if it is Apache, use /etc/init.d/httpd restart or
  service httpd restart)

- create and run new php script file with call to phpinfo() function and make sure
  dbg is listed there twice: one time in the topmost head and second time in
  the DBG section.

Enjoy.
