How to Install LKCP

	2) Compile the code

	3) Run lkcp

	4) What can go wrong

How To Install LKCP
-------------------

The installation is straight forward and can be accomplished in three stages. I intend
to put this file in the project's web page. No need to wonder how you would get at *this*
stage without reading the following :->.

1) Unpack downloaded files
--------------------------

After you get the packaged source in the form lkcp-<version>.tar.bz2 or lkcp-<version>.tar.zip, at
a shell prompt, type the following (make sure to replace "<version>" with the actual version of
lkcp at the time of download):

a) if you downloaded the bz2 version (lkcp-<version>.tar.bz2), type the following at your shell
prompt:

bunzip2 lkcp-<version>.tar.bz2 <type enter>
tar -xvf lkcp-<version>.tar <type enter>

b) if you downloaded the zip version (lkcp-<version>.tar.zip), type the following at your shell
prompt:

unzip lkcp-<version>.tar.zip <type enter>
tar -xvf lkcp-<version>.tar <type enter>

c) if you downloaded the tar.gz version (lkcp-<version>.tar.gz), type the following at your shell
prompt:

tar -xzvf lkcp-<version>.tar.gz <type enter>

2) Compile the code
-------------------

cd lkcp-<version> <type enter>
cd src <type enter>

make <type enter>

This should compile the source code successfully. If you get errors at this stage, please
report them to developer.

make install <type enter>

3) Run lkcp
-----------

You can run lkcp right-away without installing it on your system by issuing the following command

./lkcp <type enter>

Once you install lkcp (make install), all you have to do is run it as such: lkcp .

LKCP runs in two modes: root and non-root. With root mode, you can write and read values to and from
the /proc/sys files. In read mode, you can only read values that are world readable.

Please report bugs or enhancements to the developer.

4) What could go wrong
----------------------

There are two things that could go wrong during the installation of lkcp:

a) Library linking problem

LKCP depends on the ncurses library to compile and run. If anything goes wrong at this stage,
it would most likely be that you don't have ncurses installed on your system. This is VERY unlikely
as ncurses is installed on all Linux distributions, even the "home-grown" ones.

LKCP depends on glib as well. Glib is used to manipulate data lists used in the script dumping feature.
b) Compile error

While I make sure that lkcp compiles properly before releasing it, there are times when things can
go wrong. You can either fix the error yourself or ask me to fix it for you. I generally respond to
emails after leaving work for the day.
